This weekend sees the sixth round of Serie A fixtures.  However, for Sampdoria this will be their fifth match of the season as their game with Roma was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

Therefore, the arrival of AC Milan to the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris on Sunday will be their biggest test this season to date.

Having won promotion from Serie B in 2011/12, Sampdoria have cemented their place as a Serie A team again without doing anything spectacular.  Their best finish since returning from Serie B has been 7th place which was achieved in 2014/15.

Otherwise, they have always finished 10th or lower in the league table and will be hoping for better things from this campaign.

Trends show Sampdoria are unbeaten this season and have won two and drawn two of their four Serie A games. They also won their Coppa Italia third round match at home to Foggia, which kick-started their season.

However, having started the season with two wins, one at home against newly promoted Benevento and the other a good 2-1 victory at Fiorentina, Sampdoria have only managed draws in their last two Serie A matches.

Both games were away from home and Sampdoria picked up a point in a 2-2 draw at Torino and were held to a 0-0 draw at Hellas Verona.

Interestingly, despite their good unbeaten start to the season, if you consider matches from last season, trends show Sampdoria have won only two of their last twelve Serie A games but at least those two wins have come at the start of this campaign.

AC Milan make the trip to Genoa sitting in 4th place in the Serie table. They have won four and lost one of their five games this season following a huge outlay on players in the summer transfer market.

The Rossoneri started their campaign with a good 3-0 win at Crotone and followed that up with a 2-1 home victory against Cagliari.  However, AC Milan then suffered a shock to their system as they went down 4-1 at Lazio.  This was a very disappointing result but the team bounced back with home wins over Udinese and SPAL.

Away from home in Serie A, AC Milan have won only one of their previous eight games but despite that poor record, they have a good record against Sampdoria.  Trends show AC Milan are undefeated in six consecutive away matches against Sampdoria in Serie A.

Sampdoria have little to worry about in terms of injuries and suspensions ahead of this match with Dodo the only player on the treatment table.  They are likely to start the match in a 4-3-1-2 formation with Gaston Ramirez supporting the strikers.

AC Milan are without Andrea Conti, Luca Antonelli and Riccardo Montolivo for this match.  They are expected to start with three at the back with Leonardo Bonucci the man organising the defence.

AC Milan have a good record against Sampdoria but this will be a tough match to win.  Sampdoria have an undefeated record to defend and while they may not take maximum points will prove tough to beat.  A low scoring draw, with under 2.5 goals is a real possibility.
