This mid-week there is a full round of Serie A fixtures in Italy but they don’t come any bigger than the meeting between Juventus and Fiorentina at the Juventus Stadium, Turin.
There has always been a big rivalry between Juventus and Fiorentina and things really came to a head in 1982 when Juventus snatched the title away from Fiorentina and eight years later defeated them in the UEFA Cup.
Following the UEFA Cup final, Juventus bought Roberto Baggio from Fiorentina, which caused huge uproar in Florence. While the response has not been quite the same this season, Juventus have taken another young star away from Fiorentina in the form of Federico Bernardeschi, a move which has further stoked the flames.
We are in for an exciting clash in Turin and Juventus come into the game sitting second in the Serie A table following their victory at Sassuolo on Sunday. Trends show Juventus have won all four of their league games this season and they have been kept off the top on goal difference by Napoli.
Along with the win over Sassuolo there have been victories against Cagliari, Genoa and Chievo. Including matches from last season, trends show Juventus are unbeaten in their last twenty-one home Serie A games and have kept a clean sheet in their last three.
In fact, Juventus have conceded just 1 goal in their last 6 home Serie A games.
Fiorentina travel to Turin on the back of their second straight win of the season. The 2-1 home victory against Bologna was proceeded by an excellent 5-0 win at Hellas Verona.
Fiorentina started the season in poor form, going down to a 3-0 defeat at Inter Milan. This was followed by a 2-1 home defeat to Sampdoria, a match which Fiorentina were expected to win.
The Viola start the match in ninth place in Serie A, 6 points behind Juventus and trends show they have won only one of their last six away games in the league. Fiorentina have lost each of their last six away matches against Juventus.
Team news and Juventus are still without Marko Pjaca, Mattia De Sciglio, Claudio Marchisio and Sami Khedira. Max Allegri may choose to rotate some of his forward players for this match, with Douglas Costa hoping to start.
Fiorentina have a doubt over the fitness of Riccardo Saponara but will otherwise be at full strength. That should mean a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Giovanni Simeone leading the attack.
Fiorentina are up against it in this match and are unlikely to come away with anything to show for their efforts. However, we should be in for a very exciting match as there have been over 2.5 goals scored in Juventus's last seven Serie A games and over 2.5 goals scored in Fiorentina's last eight Serie A games.
So, look out for the possibility of a home win with over 2.5 goals scored in the game.
