Kaiserslautern Searching for First Win

Kaiserslautern Searching for First Win

The Bundesliga II season is well under way and this weekend will see the fourth round of matches in Germany’s second division.

Having suffered relegation from the Bundesliga in 2011/12, Kaiserslautern have found it very difficult to get back into the top-flight.  They came close in their first three attempts, finishing third and fourth twice but more recently they have struggled.

In 2015/16, they finished tenth and last season they dropped further down the Bundesliga II table, finishing in a disappointing thirteenth place.

Their opponents this week are Eintracht Braunschweig, who have played in the Bundesliga more recently than Kaiserslautern.

However, Eintracht Braunschweig only lasted one season in the Bundesliga before being relegated back to Bundesliga II for the 2014/15 season.  They have finished sixth, eighth and third in last three seasons and will be hoping to compete for promotion again this season.

Trends show it has been a slow start to the season for Kaiserslautern and they have picked up just a single point from their three league games.  The point came courtesy of a 1-1 home draw with Darmstadt in the second week of fixtures.

They started the new season with a 3-0 defeat at Nurnberg and last weekend they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Fortuna Dusseldorf. The only ray of light in their season so far is the 4-0 win at Eichede in the DFB Pokal.

Looking at Kaiserslautern’s home form and trends show they have kept a clean sheet in 11 of their last 15 league games. However, they have managed just 1 goal in each of their last four.

Eintracht Braunschweig find themselves in seventh place in the Bundesliga II table having won one and drawn two of their three league games.  This makes them unbeaten this season, a status they will want to keep following this match.

Trends show Eintracht Braunschweig’s draws have come both home and away, with the latest being last weekend. Sandwiched between the two draws was a 2-0 home win over Heidenheim.

Eintracht Braunschweig have struggled to pick up wins away from home in Bundesliga II and including matches from last season they have won only one of their previous five games on the road.  However, they have proven tough to beat and have been defeated just twice in their last eleven away Bundesliga II games.

Looking at the potential team news and Kaiserslautern are expected to be without the injured duo of defender Giuliano Modica and forward Kacper Przybylko.

Eintracht Braunschweig will be hoping last season’s top scorer Domi Kumbela is fit to start the game but he remains a doubt. Winger Salim Khelifi and midfielder Patrick Schonfeld are also expected to be out.

The bookmakers have Kaiserslautern as slight favourites for this game but the form of both teams and the resilience of Eintracht Braunschweig away from home suggests otherwise.

This may not be a classic in terms of the number of goals scored but it would be a surprise if Eintracht Braunschweig do not head home with at least a point from the game.
