Lancashire derby to finish all square
On Wednesday night, Blackburn host Lancashire rivals Burnley at Ewood Park in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
The two clubs fortunes have gone in drastically different directions in recent years. Blackburn have slumped into League One, while Burnley solidified their position in the English top-flight last season.
Blackburn have made a relatively poor start to life in League One, losing two of their last three games in the third tier. However, Rovers did win their last game 1-0 at Bradford City to end a two-game losing run.
The home side made it through to the second round by winning 3-1 at Coventry City. Prior to the win over the Sky Blues, Rovers had won just one of their previous eight games in 90 minutes in the League Cup.
Blackburn have a poor recent record against the Clarets, as they have failed to defeat their neighbours in the last six meetings in all competitions while losing the last three games.
Burnley have enjoyed a mixed start to their Premier League campaign, recording a famous 3-2 win at Chelsea before suffering a 1-0 home defeat against West Brom last time out. The Clarets will be favourites heading into this game, but much will depend on whether boss Sean Dyche rotates his squad.
The Clarets have a poor recent record in the League Cup, having been knocked out of this competition at this stage of the competition in the last four seasons. This game seems like an opportunity to put that record straight.
However, one factor that may hold them back is the fact that Dyche’s team have won just two of their last 26 games on their travels in all competitions.
Forebet predicts that this game will end all square in 90 minutes and that the tie will be decided by either extra-time or penalties. This clash could really go either way.
