Portugal and Mexico will open their Confederation Cup campaigns on Sunday at the Kazan Arena, as both teams look to start their campaigns on the front foot.

European Champions Portugal heads into this clash on the back of just two defeats in their last 17 international outings. In fact, Fernando Santos’ side have won six of their last seven competitive outings, while also scoring two or more goals in their last seven games.

Portugal’s record at the other end of the pitch is not bad either, as they have kept clean sheets in nine of their last 13 international outings.

This game will no doubt be overshadowed by the speculation over the future of Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid. The veteran forward is reportedly looking to leave Spain, after being accused of owing the Spanish tax authorities around £14.7million, something he has vigorously denied.

Portugal will be favourites to win this clash, but Mexico are no pushovers, as they have suffered just two defeats in their last 36 international outings. Juan Carlos Osorio’s team have also won five of their last seven international games.

Mexico have been relatively prolific in recent international games and have only failed to find the back of the net once in their last ten international outings. The likes of Giovanni Dos Santos, Carlos Vela and Javier Hernandez will certainly pose problems for that aforementioned solid Portuguese backline.

Osorio’s men have been involved in a lot of low scoring games of late, with five of their last eight international games producing under 2.5 goals. What has contributed to those low scoring games of late is the fact Mexico have kept clean sheets in five of their last eight international games.

This clash promises to be an intriguing one and Forebet predicts that the game will end all square and the teams will share the spoils.
