Real Sociedad to enhance European hopes with win over Gijon

Real Sociedad have been in poor form of late in La Liga and have slipped to seventh in the Spanish top-flight. However, the team from San Sebastian have a golden opportunity to move up the table with a home game against struggling Sporting Gijon on Monday night.

La Real have failed to win any of their last four games in La Liga, suffering three defeats in the process. That recent poor run of form has made qualification for the Champions League highly difficult for Eusebio Sacristan’s team to achieve.

Sociedad had looked like challengers for the top-four this season for most of the campaign. However, the top-six and the Europa League positions now look like a more realistic prospect for the home side.

La Real’s form at the Anoeta Stadium has been poor of late in La Liga, as they have failed to win any of their last four games, as they have lost two and drawn two of those aforementioned outings.

Sporting Gijon currently find themselves 18th in La Liga and five points from safety. Their form has not been great of late. Sporting have won just once in their last eight La Liga games, so their standing in the table is understandable.

Rubi’s side have been poor on their travels in La Liga, having won just one of their last 22 away games in the Spanish top-flight. Their away form has improved slightly of late though, with draws at Valencia and Sevilla in their last two games on the road.

Sporting’s recent away games have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last seven away games in La Liga.

Real may have struggled for form of late, but Forebet predicts that they will get the better of the visitors and move into the top-six of La Liga.
