Real Madrid will once again attempt to maintain their spot at the top of La Liga, as Zinedine Zidane’s team welcome midtable Las Palmas to the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

Los Blancos were temporarily knocked off the top of the table by Barcelona last weekend. However, the men from Madrid returned to the top by coming back from two goals down at Villarreal to win 3-2.

The victory means that Real are leading champions Barcelona by one point and have a game in-hand. However, with Barcelona playing earlier in the day, Los Blancos could find themselves back in second place for a couple of hours anyway.

Zidane’s team will be highly confident of recording a victory in this one, though, as they have won their last eight home games in La Liga, scoring two or more goals in each of those eight victories. The European champions have also won their last three competitive games against Las Palmas.

The home side have also scored three or more goals against the visitors in the last three meetings at the Bernabeu, so the 12th place visitors have their work cut out to get anything from this game.

The visitors head to the capital in poor form, having lost their last four La Liga outings. Their form on the road has not been great either, as they have lost six of their last seven away games in the Spanish top-flight.

Las Palmas have found goals hard to come by in recent games, as they have failed to score in three of their last four outings in the Spanish top-flight. However, Real have kept just one clean sheet in their last five games in the league, so there could be hope of the visitors netting at the Bernabeu.

However, it looks unlikely that the Islanders will head home from the capital with anything other than disappointment.
