Liverpool need to improve against Stoke

On Tuesday evening Liverpool host Stoke at Anfield in the Premier League, as the home side attempt to keep their title bid on track.

The Reds were six points behind leaders Chelsea, but the Blues hosted Bournemouth on Boxing Day and extended their lead to nine points at the top of the table. Third-place Arsenal also leapfrogged Jurgen Klopp’s side with a victory over West Brom on Boxing Day. That means that a victory is essential for the Reds to stay in touch at the top of the table.

Klopp’s side struggled to break down neighbours Everton last time out, but a 94th-minute winner from Sadio Mane gave the Reds maximum points. The Merseysider’s were not at their best against the Toffees, but have a good recent record at Anfield.

The Reds have not suffered defeat in 15 games on home soil in all competitions. They also have a good home record against the Potters in the Premier League, having gone eight games unbeaten against the visitors from the Potteries. In fact, Liverpool have won their last three home games against Mark Hughes sides in the top-flight.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have also suffered just three defeats in their last 26 games in the Premier League, so the Merseysider’s are tough opposition to beat.

Stoke have endured mixed fortunes this season, but at the moment the Potters are on a run of three games without a victory in the top-flight. Consecutive draws against Southampton and Leicester followed a defeat at Arsenal.

Mark Hughes side are in need of consistency and it looks unlikely that this game will see an end to that run of winless games in the top-flight.

Forebet predicts a Liverpool victory in this clash, but the Reds will have to produce a better display than they did against Everton if they are to record a win against the Potters.
