Bournemouth can record prestigious win over Southampton

South coast rivals Bournemouth and Southampton meet at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League’s early kick-off on Sunday.

The home side are in the top half of the table having dispatched champions Leicester 1-0 in midweek, with winger Marc Pugh scoring on a real appearance for the Cherries.

Bournemouth position in the table is courtesy of a good home record this season in the top-flight. The Cherries have won five of their eight games at the Vitality Stadium this season in the Premier League. Eddie Howe’s side have also kept four clean sheets in those eight home league games.

The Cherries have impressed with their football since their promotion and will be looking to get one over their south coast rivals. The Saints are only above the Cherries on goal difference and the home side will leapfrog their rivals with a victory.

Southampton have endured an inconsistent season under Claude Puel and currently sit ninth in the league table. Last time out they drew 0-0 at ten-man Stoke. The result will have been disappointing, considering they played the game for more than an hour against ten men.

The Saints have claimed just one win in their last eight Premier League away games. Puel’s side have not won any of their last five games on their travels. One of the Southampton’s main problems is scoring goals.

The Saints have failed to score in half of their away games in the league this season, including their last two away outings in the top-flight. The Saints have certainly missed injured top scorer Charlie Austin, who will once again miss out on this one.

Bournemouth always seems to be confident heading into home games in the top-flight. Eddie Howe’s side will certainly be confident of picking up a result against their south coast rivals in this clash.
