Hull visit a golden opportunity for Middlesbrough

Two of the Premier League’s struggles meet on Monday night as Middlesbrough host Hull City at the Riverside Stadium.

For the home side, the clash represents a real opportunity to pick up maximum points and move clear of the relegation zone. Boro have won just one of their last 11 Premier League games, but they may never have a better chance to record victory than against the out-of-form Tigers.

The visitors have also won just one of their last 11 games in the Premier League. Mike Phelan’s side has also lost their last four consecutive away games in the top-flight. In fact, the Tigers have won just once in their last seven away games in the Premier League.

Middlesbrough have won just one of their last nine home games at the Riverside Stadium in top-flight over their last two stints in the Premier League. Boro have also won just one of their six Premier League games at the Riverside this season, so their home record is not great.

Hull’s poor away record gives Aitor Karanka’s side hope of recording a rare home win on Monday night. A win could move the side from the north east up to 12th place in the table and four points clear of the relegation zone.

Despite not winning any of their last three games, Karanka’s side have produced some decent performances. Draws at Manchester City and champions Manchester City were very credibility results. Boro also suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home against league leaders Chelsea.

The defeat against Chelsea was also their only Premier League loss in the last five top-flight outings. In recent games, Karanka’s team have done everything but win, so a game against travel-sick Hull City is a good game for Boro to get a vital win on the board.
