Arsenal must beat West Brom to prevent late nerves

Arsenal hosts West Brom on Thursday night at the Emirates Stadium in a game that could be crucial to the Gunners. The Gunners were contenders for the Premier League title a few weeks ago and now they look like they are barely clinging onto fourth spot.

Manchester United defeated Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, and so the Gunners are just one point clear of the Red Devils and a slip-up against the Baggies could prove very costly indeed for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Arsenal have been inconsistent in recent weeks and have drawn their last two games, despite leading in both at one stage, but could only claim draws at West Ham and on Saturday against Crystal Palace.

A fight for a top four place was not what Gunners expected with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and even Manchester City not enjoying the best of campaigns in the Premier League this season.

However, with just five games remaining in the campaign the Gunners are now looking over their shoulders at United and maybe even sixth-place West Ham.

The majority of Gunners fans are unhappy with their teams lacklustre displays for most of the season and there have even been questions about boss Arsene Wenger’s future at the club.

Arsenal can soothe some of those nerves about not making the Premier League top four with a victory over Tony Pulis’ side on Thursday. A win would once again establish a decent gap behind the Gunners and fifth-place United in the Premier League table.

It would not mean that the Gunners were home and hosed in the race for a Champions League spot this season, but most Arsenal fans would sleep a lot easier after a victory over the side from the Midlands.
