The 2023-24 Premier League campaign gets underway on Friday, August 11, meaning another Fantasy Premier League season is upon us. Who are best FPL players to target for Gameweek 1? We’ve got you covered.

Before we go over the best players for FPL Gameweek 1, let’s take a quick look at the forthcoming fixtures. After all, fixtures count for a lot when it comes to building your FPL team at the start of the season.

Fixtures

  • Burnley vs. Man City
  • Arsenal vs. Nottm Forest
  • Sheff Utd vs. Crystal Palace
  • Bournemouth vs. West Ham
  • Brighton vs. Luton
  • Everton vs. Fulham
  • Newcastle vs. Aston Villa
  • Brentford vs. Tottenham
  • Chelsea vs. Liverpool
  • Man Utd vs. Wolves

Newly-promoted Burnley host reigning champions Manchester City in the curtain-raiser, with City legend Vincent Kompany testing himself against Pep Guardiola.

Arsenal, Brighton and Manchester United have favourable home fixtures against Nottingham Forest, Luton Town and Wolves, respectively. Elsewhere, the standout tie of the round sees Chelsea take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

Goalkeepers

David Raya was the highest-scoring goalkeeper in FPL last season. With the Brentford stopper on the verge of joining Arsenal, Raya has the potential to better his previous score this time around.

Ederson and Alisson are also expected to pick up plenty of points this season, although they are both priced at £5.5m. If you’re looking for a budget goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, Sam Johnstone and Robert Sanchez are all priced at £4.5m.

Defenders

Kieran Trippier was the highest-scoring defender by some distance last term, racking up 42 points more than his nearest challenger, Ben White. Trent Alexander-Arnold also starred from an FPL perspective, although he is priced at £8.0m this season.

Due to Brighton’s favourable fixture run, Pervis Estupinan currently boasts the highest ownership of any defender in the game. Stars such as John Stones, Gabriel and Reece James also look set to enjoy successful campaigns.

Midfielders

There is a plethora of great value midfielders in the game this season, with the likes of Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Jota, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish all priced between £8.5m and £7.5m.

Further down the list, midfielders such as Kaoru Mitoma, Bryan Mbeumo, Moussa Diaby, Mykhailo Mudryk and Eberechi Eze are all worth considering if you’re looking for a cheaper midfielder with favourable fixtures.

Forwards

Having scored 36 goals in 35 Premier League games last season, Erling Haaland is (unsurprisingly) the most expensive player in FPL this season at £14.0m. Are you brave enough to back against the “Striking Viking”?

Ollie Watkins has a kind starting price of £8.0m, with Liverpool duo Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo priced at £7.5m. There are plenty of other forwards to keep an eye on, including Nicolas Jackson, Evan Ferguson and Joao Pedro.
