Can German champions Bayer Leverkusen remain unbeaten against Roma in EL semi-final first leg?

Bayer Leverkusen are unbeaten in 46 matches in 2023-24. Will our score prediction back the German champions to take the spoils against Roma in the Eternal City?

Leverkusen will head to Italy for the first leg of the Europa League semifinal. Die Werkself have already wrapped up the German title and are now aiming to pick up the Europa League trophy.

Xabi Alonso could also win the German Cup and lead Bayer to a treble. However, Daniele De Rossi and Roma will aim to upset the Germans.

This year’s Europa League semifinal is a repeat of last season’s semifinal. Indeed, Bayer Leverkusen played Roma in the final four one year ago.

Roma claimed a 1-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico before going to Leverkusen and claiming a nil-nil draw. Both teams are very different than they were 12 months ago, however.

Die Werkself have continued to improve and progress under Alonso. His work culminated in leading Bayer to their first-ever Bundesliga title.

Roma sacked Jose Mourinho earlier this season and installed club legend De Rossi.

The football has been far more attractive and less argumentative. Can Roma knock out Leverkusen once more and make it to the final?

The Leverkusen energy could be running low. The team drew each of its last three matches in all competitions.

Bayer’s 2-2 draw with Stuttgart was achieved deep into second-half stoppage time. It was the second straight week Die Werkself scored to draw in second-half stoppage time.

Since eliminating AC Milan from the Europa League in the quarterfinals, Roma failed to win two of their last three matches in Serie A. The Giallorossi drew 2-2 with Napoli in Naples at the weekend.

Roma have lost just three times at home all season. Meanwhile, they have scored 54 times at the Stadio Olimpico and conceded 21 times.

However, Roma will play a Bayer team that has won 17 times and drawn five matches on the road this season. Fifty-three goals were scored by Bayer in their 22 road matches. They conceded just 18 times on the road.

Leverkusen have managed just one win against Roma in their seven  meetings in all competitions since 2004. However, Roma only won two of those matches, as four ended in draws.

Our score prediction is for a close match, with the teams drawing once more, and the score ending 2-2. The result will keep Leverkusen unbeaten. It will also leave everything to play for in the second leg.
