The 48th edition of the Copa America is set to get underway on Thursday, June 20. This year’s competition features 10 CONMEBOL teams and six CONCACF teams, with the United States hosting the tournament.

In this article, we look at the bookies’ favourites before sharing our prediction for the tournament. Forebet’s statistical model has used trends and analysis to predict the group stage, the knockout phase and the final.

Keep reading to discover what our AI algorithm predicts.

Who Will Win Copa America 2024?

Let’s start by analysing the top 10 favourites to lift the trophy. Unsurprisingly, Argentina and Brazil are the clear frontrunners. But could and outside upset the expectations?

Argentina won the Copa America in 2021 before winning the 2022 World Cup. As a result, La Albiceleste have 15 Copa America titles to their name – six more than Brazil.

Also sitting on 15 titles, Uruguay are the third favourites, although they have only lifted the trophy once since 1995, with eight of their triumphs coming before 1956.

Mexico, Colombia, USA and Ecuador bridge the gap between the frontrunners and the rest. Chile – who won back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016 – join Peru and Paraguay in rounding out the top 10.

Without further ado, let’s dive into Forebet’s mathematics-based predictions for Copa America 2024 – based on our statistical model.

    Group Stage Predictions

As expected, Argentina finished atop Group A after picking up two wins and one draw. Peru also qualified from Group A, meaning Canada and Chile exited the tournament at the first hurdle.

Group B turned out to be the tightest group, with all four teams finishing just three points apart. Mexico and Ecuador managed to make it to the knockout phase, eliminating Venezuela and Jamaica.

In Group C, Uruguay won all three games to finish three points clear of the USA, who claimed two victories. This meant that Panama and Bolivia occupied the bottom two places.

Brazil were the only other team with a 100% record in the group stage. The Brazilians finished three points clear of Colombia and six points above Costa Rica, while Paraguay failed to register a point.

In terms of stats, Uruguay posted the best goal difference with +8, while Bolivia recorded the worst goal difference with -6. Uruguay and Brazil registered three wins, while Bolivia and Paraguay were eliminated without picking up a point.

    Quarter-Final Predictions

Argentina ended Ecuador’s dreams in the quarter-finals, reaching an unrivalled 37th Copa America semi-final. Meanwhile, Mexico got the better of Peru, who reached the semi-finals on four occasions between 2011 and 2021.

The other quarter-finals saw Uruguay defeat Colombia and Brazil dispatch the USA. It is worth noting that Uruguay have not reached the semi-finals since winning the tournament in 2011.

    Semi-Final Predictions

The semi-finals separated the two pre-tournament favourites, with Argentina taking on Mexico and Brazil facing Uruguay. Based on stats and trends, Forebet’s algorithm sent the favourites into the final.

Argentina have featured in a record 29 Copa America finals, winning 15 and losing 14. As for Brazil, they have featured in 20 finals, winning nine and losing 11. So, what happened in the final?

    2024 Copa America Final Prediction

Argentina defeated Brazil in the 1937 Copa America final, but the Brazilians gained their revenge in the 2004 and 2007 finals. However, La Albiceleste beat Brazil 1-0 in the previous final in 2021.

This would be the fifth Copa America final contested between the two giants of South American football. This time around, our statistical model predicted that Brazil would secure the silverware.
