Could In-Form Colombia Snatch Argentina’s Copa America Crown?

    Argentina vs Colombia - 07/15/2024

Could In-Form Colombia Snatch Argentina’s Copa America Crown?
    07/11/2024 7582

Florida’s Hard Rock Stadium is the venue for this weekend’s 2024 Copa America final, with the reigning champions bidding to defend their crown.

Lionel Messi’s Argentina will do battle with Colombia in Miami Gardens, following clean-sheet victories for both sides in the semi-finals.

In this preview, we cover all the key stats, trends and analysis ahead of the showpiece. Continue reading to discover what Forebet’s AI algorithm predicts.

Argentina booked their place in the final with a 2-0 victory over Canada, courtesy of goals from Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi.

That win followed a penalty shootout triumph against Ecuador in the quarter-finals, with the defending champions conceding in the 91st minute of that match.

Impressively, Argentina have conceded a solitary goal during the 2024 Copa America, keeping four clean sheets in five matches on their way to the final.

When you look at the bigger picture, the reigning World Cup champions have lost just one of their 19 games since lifting the trophy in Qatar back in December 2022.

Meanwhile, Colombia claimed a 1-0 victory over Uruguay in the semi-finals, despite playing the entirety of the second half with 10 men following Daniel Munoz’s red card.

The Colombians have registered four wins and one draw at the 2024 Copa America, scoring 12 goals (2.4 goals per game) while keeping three clean sheets.

Thanks to their performances this summer, Colombia have now avoided defeat in each of their last 28 matches across all competitions.

Having won 12 of their previous 13 games, the Colombians will fancy their chances of dethroning Argentina this weekend, although it won’t be easy.

Head-to-head: Colombia have managed to win only one of their last 12 meetings with Argentina, claiming a 2-0 victory in this fixture back in 2019.

It is also worth noting that four of the previous six meetings have produced over 1.5 goals, so we should see plenty of action this time around.

Team news: Julian Alvarez will continue to partner Lionel Messi in Argentina’s forward line, with Cristian Romero and Lisandro Martinez expected to start at centre-back.

Colombia’s Daniel Munoz is suspended for the final after picking up a red card last time out, meaning Santiago Arias will likely come into the side at right-back.

Although Argentina will start the final as favourites, Colombia will be confident of extending their impressive hot streak and potentially lifting the trophy.

Forebet predicts that Argentina and Colombia will serve up a low-scoring draw in normal time, sending the showpiece to extra time.
