Griezmann will take time to settle at Barcelona

French striker Antoine Griezmann has finally completed his move from Atletico Madrid to Barcelona for a fee of £108million. The fee was the clause in his Atletico contract.

However, Atletico claims that the two parties agreed terms when the clause was much larger and are reportedly set to take legal action. Whatever happens with the fee, one thing is for sure, Griezmann will be lining up for Barcelona next season.

The French forward has proven himself to be a highly prolific goalscorer in Madrid. However, his drive to win big trophies has taken him to Catalonia, with Barcelona favourites to win both La Liga and the Champions League next season.

Griezmann is no doubt a great addition to the Barcelona squad. However, he will need time to settle in his new surroundings. The Blaugrana are the sort of club that can make or break a player.

Playing for the Spanish champions is very different to playing for Atleti. Barcelona are expected to win every week and win every trophy. The pressure on their players is next level compared to at Atletico.

There is also the issue of how he will fit into the team’s attack. The French forward has talked about looking forward to playing with Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi in Catalonia.

However, as many other very good attacking players have found at Barcelona it is not easy to fit into that attacking set-up alongside Messi and Uruguayan star Luis Suarez.

Griezmann may take a few months to build up an understanding with his fellow Barcelona attacking players. The 28-year-old is an intelligent footballer, though, so should be a big success at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona and Griezmann seem like the perfect combination. However, only time will tell if the Frenchman’s controversial switch will prove to be an overwhelming success.
