Denis Suarez needs to step back to move forward

Last season Spanish midfielder Denis Suarez endured a difficult half a season loan spell at Arsenal from Barcelona.

Much was expected of the former Villarreal star. However, he struggled for fitness and Arsenal cancelled his loan early as he picked up an injury towards the end of the campaign.

The reality of his spell in north London was that it was a nightmare. The 25-year-old just never got going. He made just six appearances for Unai Emery’s side, all from the substitutes bench.

Some even claim he may be the worse signing for Arsenal in the Premier League era, which is harsh as they have made some woeful signings.

He is now back at parent club Barcelona, who have reportedly agreed a deal worth £11.5million with Celta Vigo for the midfielder. The move would be one that takes Suarez back to his roots.

The midfielder started his career at Celta before moving to Manchester City at the tender age of 17. He has since bounced around from club-to-club and struggled to find any real consistency.

However, there looks to be a player in there, it seems that he just needs to find the right stage. A player is not signed by the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City and Arsenal if he doesn’t have talent. He is also highly versatile, which is a bonus, as he can fill any of the attacking midfield roles.

The midfielder’s career is now at a crossroads. He has flopped at some big clubs and maybe he now needs to take a step back to move forward in his football career.

Suarez needs to start fulfilling his potential, as he is now 25, which in terms of footballers is certainly not young. Maybe playing out of the media glare at a smaller club like Celta will help the midfielder find some consistency.
