Wales the better team against Belgium

В петък вечер Уелс излезе в четвърфинална среща срещу Белгия в ролята, по-скоро на аутсайдер. Въпреки това обаче, тима постигна страхотна победа с 3-1 над един от фаворитите за спечелване на турнира.

Belgian enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges and took the lead through an effort from Radja Nainggolan. Wales equalised through a header from captain Ashley Williams.

The Dragons took the lead on 55 minutes, after striker Hal-Robson Kanu produced a sublime Cruyff turn and slotted home past Thibaut Courtois. The win was wrapped up on 85 minutes as substitute Sam Vokes headed home powerfully.

The means that Wales are now through to the semi-finals of the competition in their debut campaign at the European Championships.

The key to their success has been the fact they have been strong as a team right the way through the tournament. On Friday night the Dragons were a better team than the Red Devils, it was as simple as that.

There had been question marks about Marc Wilmots’ team’s ability to come together as a team, despite the squad being highly-talented as individuals. In the end that individually has cost the Belgians big time.

The likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku are regarded as highly-rated players, but they were outshone by the likes of Sam Vokes and Hal-Robson Kanu.

The difference was that the two Welsh players were team players and despite not being as lauded as the Belgians players gave everything they had to help their country. On the other side when the going got tough the likes of Lukaku, as he has a tendency to do hide.

Hazard and De Bruyne were not at their best either, but the sheer magnitude of the Welsh team’s display meant that Chris Coleman’s team came out on top.

Wales’ win was a fantastic example of how a good team can easily overcome a group of more talented individuals.
