Spain and England Set for Euro 2024 Final Showdown: What Does Forebet’s Algorithm Predict?
    07/12/2024 16002

Following a month of thrilling football action, the stage is set for Sunday’s European Championship final at Berlin’s Olympiastadion.

Spain and England will battle it out for the trophy following 2-1 victories for both sides, with La Roja seeing off France and the Three Lions overcoming the Netherlands.

Can the Spaniards add a fourth European title to their collection? Or will England make amends for losing the final in 2021? Read on to find out what our predictive analytics model forecasts.

Spain come from behind to defeat France in the semi-finals, courtesy of memorable goals from Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo.

La Roja are now the only team to win all of their matches at Euro 2024, meaning they head into the final on a six-game winning streak in the tournament.

Spain have scored 13 goals at the European Championship (2.2 goals per game), conceding just three goals at the opposite end of the pitch.

It is also worth noting that Spain have scored over 1.5 goals in seven of their previous nine matches across all competitions, highlighting their attacking strength.

As for England, they came from behind to defeat the Netherlands in the semi-finals, with substitute Ollie Watkins scoring the winner in the 90th minute.

Impressively, the Three Lions have come from behind in each of their three knockout clashes, overcoming Slovakia before beating Switzerland on penalties.

Despite not being at their best this summer, England remain unbeaten at Euro 2024, registering three wins and three draws on their way to the final.

That said, Gareth Southgate’s side will need to up their game if they are to get the better of Spain, who have arguably been the best team in Germany.

Head-to-head: The last meeting between Spain and England came in the Nations League back in 2018, with Southgate’s men winning 3-2 on that occasion.

However, the Three Lions have only managed to win two of their previous eight matches against La Roja, suffering five defeats in that time.

Team news: Spain are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams offering attacking support to lone striker Alvaro Morata.

England could stick with a 3-4-2-1 formation and Bukayo Saka to be again at the right wing-back.

Given the enormity of the occasion, Sunday’s final will likely be a tense and cagey affair between two strong sides.

Forebet predicts that Spain and England will play out a low-scoring draw in normal time, meaning extra time and/or penalties will be required to crown the champions.
