Belgium could be a major force at Euro 2016

Belgium head to this summer’s European Championships in France with a squad that is regarded by many as their best ever. In fact Marc Wilmots team is currently ranked as the second best in the world rankings, having risen to top spot in November 2015.

The Red Devils have been drawn against Italy, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland in what could be a challenging group for the Belgians, who have qualified for the European Championships just four times in the competitions history.

However their squad is full of quality players. The Belgian squad contains 12 players plying their trade in the Premier League in the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.

Wilmots has that much quality to call upon that he could afford to leave out Tottenham winger Nacer Chadli and Everton forward Kevin Mirallas. Manchester City captain and centre-back Vincent Kompany will miss out through injury, but the presence of Alderweireld, Thomas Vermaelen and Jan Vertonghen in the squad means the Belgians are well covered in defence.

The midfield is not short of star performers with Moussa Dembele, Radja Nainggolan and Axel Witsel all available to patrol the engine room for the Red Devils.

However, arguably the Red Devils attack is the most impressive of all departments. Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Divock Origi and Michy Batshuayi all possess the ability to give even the best defences problems.

Boss Marc Wilmots biggest problem has been how to accommodate all the top talent available to him. Wilmots and his team will be highly confident of making a big impact in France.
