Premier League title a two-horse race

Premier League title a two-horse race

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has stated he believes any of the top seven teams in the Premier League can win the title this season. Whether the Argentinian is attempting mind games or attempting to quell expectations at his club he surely cannot really believe that.

It is very difficult to see past table toppers Leicester and second place Tottenham for the title. Third-place Arsenal are a massive 11 points behind Leicester and six points behind arch-rivals Spurs, although Arsene Wenger’s team does have an extra game to play than the top two.

Even with that game in-hand it seems unlikely that Arsenal will be able to make up the ground on Leicester or Tottenham. With games running out this weekend’s games could be pivotal in the direction of the title this season.

Tottenham face a trip to Liverpool, where they have struggled to win during the Premier League era, winning on just two occasions on the red half of Merseyside. Pochettino’s side could move to within two points of Leicester with a win, as the Foxes play in the early kick-off on Sunday against Southampton at the King Power Stadium.

Neither team can afford a slip-up this late in the campaign, but it seems unlikely that Arsenal or any of the other top seven can still win the title. If they did then we will have a completely crazy end to the season, which has already been an extraordinary campaign in the English top-flight.
