Euro 2020 Squad Guide and Analysis: Scotland

Euro 2020 Squad Guide and Analysis: Scotland
2055

Scotland are competing at their first European Championship since 1996 and have never qualified for the knockout phase. Packed with Premier League quality, Steve Clarke’s squad could buck the trend this year.

• Manager: Steve Clarke

• Current FIFA World Ranking: 44th

• Best European Championship finish: Group Stage (1992, 1996)

Scotland’s Euro 2020 squad is littered with Premier League stars, so Clark’s men will fancy their chances of upsetting the odds in the coming weeks. Let’s take a look at the 26-man squad in full.

• Scotland’s Euro 2020 Squad

Goalkeepers: Craig Gordon (Hearts), David Marshall (Derby), Jon McLaughlin (Rangers).

Defenders: Liam Cooper (Leeds), Declan Gallagher (Motherwell), Grant Hanley (Norwich), Jack Hendry (Celtic), Scott McKenna (Nottingham Forest), Stephen O’Donnell (Motherwell), Nathan Patterson (Rangers), Andy Robertson (Liverpool), Greg Taylor (Celtic), Kieran Tierney (Arsenal).

Midfielders: Stuart Armstrong (Southampton), Ryan Christie (Celtic), John Fleck (Sheffield United), James Forrest (Celtic), Ryan Fraser (Newcastle United), Billy Gilmour (Chelsea), John McGinn (Aston Villa), Callum McGregor (Celtic), Scott McTominay (Manchester United), David Turnbull (Celtic).

Forwards: Che Adams (Southampton), Lyndon Dykes (QPR), Kevin Nisbet (Hibernian).

• Who Will Scotland Face in Group D?

Scotland have been drawn in Group D, alongside England, Croatia and the Czech Republic. They face the Czechs first at Hampden Park on June 14.

Clarke’s side will then face neighbours and rivals England at Wembley on June 18, before capping off their group-stage campaign against Croatia on June 22.

• Scotland’s Star Player

Andy Robertson: Fans of the Premier League will be familiar with players like Kieran Tierny, Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour. But Andy Robertson is arguably Scotland’s best player.

The national captain has won it all with Liverpool and has undoubtedly been one of the Reds’ most consistent performers over the past couple of years.

• How Far Can Scotland Go?

Ultimately, Scotland could surprise a lot of people at Euro 2020. Although Group D is tough, it is not impossible to get out of.

Given the possibility of qualifying for the knockout phase with a third-place finish, Scotland’s EPL-heavy squad could pick up enough positive results to make it to the last 16.
