Euro 2020 Squad Guide and Analysis: Italy
3739

Italy won all ten of their qualifying games, scoring 34 goals while conceding just four along the way. Have they got what it takes to win their first European Championship since 1968?

• Manager: Roberto Mancini

• Current FIFA World Ranking: 7th

• Best European Championship finish: Champions (1968)

Led by Roberto Mancini, Italy will be confident of reaching their fourth Euros final this year. The former Manchester City boss has been building something special over the past couple of years.

• Italy’s Euro 2020 Squad

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Donnarumma (Milan), Alex Meret (Napoli), Salvatore Sirigu (Torino).

Defenders: Francesco Acerbi (Lazio), Alessandro Bastoni (Inter), Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Giovanni Di Lorenzo (Napoli), Emerson Palmieri (Chelsea), Alessandro Florenzi (Paris), Leonardo Spinazzola (Roma), Rafael Toloi (Atalanta).

Midfielders: Nicolo Barella (Inter), Bryan Cristante (Roma), Jorginho (Chelsea), Manuel Locatelli (Sassuolo), Lorenzo Pellegrini (Roma), Stefano Sensi (Inter), Marco Verratti (Paris).

Forwards: Andrea Belotti (Torino), Domenico Berardi (Sassuolo), Federico Bernardeschi (Juventus), Federico Chiesa (Juventus), Ciro Immobile (Lazio), Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli), Giacomo Raspadori (Sassuolo).

• Who Will Italy Face in Group A?

Italy will enjoy home advantage in all three of their group games, starting on the opening night of the tournament with a match against Turkey in Rome on June 11.

Following a game against Switzerland on June 16, Italy complete their Group A matches against Wales on June 20.

• Italy’s Star Player

Giorgio Chiellini: Italy have plenty of exciting young stars breaking through at the moment, but Giorgio Chiellini’s experience looks set to hold everything together.

The serial winner has led both Italy and Juventus to huge success over the years. Along with nine Serie A titles, the towering centre-back has over a century of international caps to his name.

• How Far Can Italy Go?

If all goes to plan, Italy should finish top of Group A. If that happens, they will face the Group C runners-up in the Round of 16 – giving them an excellent chance of advancing.

Reaching the final could be a big ask for Mancini’s men, but they are likely to go deep into the tournament and could reach the last four.
