Euro 2020 Squad Guide and Analysis: England

Euro 2020 Squad Guide and Analysis: England
2805

Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate left his final squad announcement until the eleventh hour, but we now know who will be representing England at Euro 2020.

• Manager: Gareth Southgate

• Current FIFA World Ranking: 4th

• Best European Championship finish: Semi-Finals (1968, 1996)

Only three nations – Belgium, France and Brazil – sit ahead of England in the FIFA World Rankings. But can Southgate’s men break their semi-final hoodoo and go one better this year?

• England’s Euro 2020 Squad

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Manchester United), Sam Johnstone (West Bromwich Albion), Jordan Pickford (Everton).

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Ben Chilwell (Chelsea), Conor Coady (Wolves), Reece James (Chelsea), Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Atletico), Kyle Walker (Manchester City).

Midfielders: Jude Bellingham (Dortmund), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Kalvin Phillips (Leeds United), Declan Rice (West Ham).

Forwards: Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Jadon Sancho (Dortmund), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City).

• Who Will England Face in Group D?

England are clear favorites to win Group D. The Three Lions kick off their campaign with a match against Croatia at Wembley on June 13.

They will then play a huge local derby on June 18, hosting neighbours Scotland. England wrap up their group games against the Czech Republic on June 22.

• England’s Star Player

Harry Kane: England are blessed with tons of world-class youngsters, including the likes of Phil Foden, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mason Mount. However, Harry Kane is arguably their most important player.

The national captain heads into Euro 2020 on the back of another successful individual season, having bagged 33 goals and 17 assists in 49 matches for Tottenham.

• How Far Can England Go?

England have more than enough quality to reach the semi-finals. That said, if they win their group, they are likely to come up against one of Portugal, France or Germany in the last 16.

If they can navigate their way through the knockout stages, Southgate’s men could qualify for the last four.
