The European Championships of 2024 are over, and there are some important statistics to note to take into the upcoming season and the next international tournament. Let’s take a look at some of them.

    Spain’s Legendary Status

Spain were undoubtedly undeserving winners of Euro 2024, despite being the fourth favourites to claim the trophy at the start of the tournament. However, they managed to break two notable records.

The first is they managed to score the most goals in the history of a single European Championship finals since the start of the tournament in 1960, as they secured 15 goals en route to the trophy, including two in the final against England.

Even better yet, they also became the first team in the competition’s history to win all seven of their games throughout Euro 2024, which oddly enough, has not been achieved once by any nation in the 64 years of European action.

A Low Number of Goals From a Golden Boot Winner

In recent competitions, quite a few number of goals have gone in. Euro 2020 saw two players score five goals, as Cristiano Ronaldo took home the Golden Boot with one more assist than Patrik Shick. Antoine Griezmann took home the trophy with six before this.

However, for just the seventh time, the European Championships Golden Boot was awarded to a player with less than four goals, as six players shared the award with three goals each.

    Cristiano Ronaldo’s First-Ever Blank Fire

Ronaldo has been competing in every major tournament of both the European Championship and World Cup since 2004, scoring at least one goal in each of those. In fact, he even claimed the Golden Boot at Euro 2020 with five goals.

However, for the first time ever, Ronaldo fired a blank and failed to score a single goal throughout the tournament.

    Lemine Yamal’s Record-Breaking Feats

Barcelona’s prodigy, Lamine Yamal, was undoubtedly the name of the tournament from Euro 2024. In truth, he was probably a little unfortunate not to get the Player of the Tournament award, although he did manage to get the Young Player of the Tournament award with his excellent efforts.

Yamal started the tournament at 16 years of age and was Spain’s main man. He subsequently broke a record for being the youngest player to play and score at the European Championship finals when he scored the Goal of the Tournament in the semi-finals win over France.

He also ended up becoming the youngest player to play in a European Championship final when he helped Spain defeat England in Berlin.
