El Derbi Madrileño is not only one of the biggest games in Spanish football but in European and world club football.
The match is contested by Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid and it takes place at least twice per season in La Liga.

In the 2022/23 season, the first Madrid derby will take place on the 18th of September 2022.
The first Madrid derby of the 2022/23 season will be the 230th meeting of the teams in all competitions.
There is one team who is clearly ahead when it comes to the head to head record between Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid and the latter has claimed 113 victories across all competitions compared to that of 57 wins for Atlético Madrid.
If we turn our attention specifically to the Spanish domestic league, Real Madrid have 90 wins, which is over twice the number of victories by Atlético Madrid, who have 40 wins to their name. In fact, there have been as many draws between the teams as there have been wins for Atlético Madrid (40), making a total of 170 matches played in La Liga.
We must go back to the 2nd of December 1906 for the first match between Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid.

Between 1964 and 2013, Real Madrid were much the dominant team in the Madrid derby. It is a prolonged period but Real Madrid rarely lost to their city rivals.
The teams met 93 times in La Liga and Real Madrid recorded 54 wins, with 9 wins in succession between 2018 and 2013. Atlético Madrid recorded only 13 victories over that period of 49 years.
Despite a spell of 4 wins in 5 league games between 2013 and 2016, Atlético Madrid continue to struggle in the Madrid derby. They have won only 1 of the last 13 La Liga fixtures in the Madrid derby, winning the most recent game 1-0 in 2021/22.
There were also the two recent Champions League final meetings between the teams, both of which ended in favour of Real Madrid.
In terms of the top scorers in the Madrid derby, Cristiano Ronaldo leads the way on 22 goals, 5 ahead of the legendary Alfredo Di Stéfano. There are no current players in the top six and no one is likely to threaten the record of Ronaldo for some time.
Looking at individual appearances, Sergio Ramos is top with 43 appearances and again, there is no current player who is close to beating that record.
