Everton vs Liverpool – Insight into matchday No. 6
    09/01/2022 3429

Liverpool will travel to the other side of Stanley Park on Saturday for a lunchtime kickoff with Merseyside Derby rival Everton. It will be the 241st all-time meeting between the long-time rivals.

Everton go into the match in desperate need of a win. The Toffees are one of three Premier League clubs without a victory this season.

Frank Lampard’s men have secured three points from 15 points on offer with each point coming from a draw. Everton’s last three games all ended in draws.

Liverpool started slowly picking up two points from nine on offer. The Reds have now won back-to-back games with a 9-0 victory over Bournemouth and midweek 2-1 come from behind victory versus Newcastle.

The win versus Newcastle saw Fabio Carvalho score in the eighth minute of stoppage-time for the win.

    All-time head-to-head record

Everton and Liverpool have played 60 matches in the Premier League era. The Reds lead the head-to head series of games versus Everton with a record of 26W-25D-10L in the Premier League. Liverpool outscored Everton to the tune of 85-53 in those 60 English Premier League fixtures.

Goodison Park hasn’t been a fortress for the Toffees. Everton’s home record versus Liverpool is a mere 7W-12D-11L. With three straight matches in the Premier League ending in draws, Lampard will be hopeful his team can get a draw at the very least this weekend.

In 2021-22, Liverpool did the Premier League double over Everton. The Reds won by a combined 6-1 scoreline in those two league matches.

    Frank Lampard vs. Jurgen Klopp

Lampard and Klopp have met six times on the touchline with the latter claiming a better head-to-head record. Klopp has won five and lost one of the six matches these managers have contested.

Klopp has gained 2.5 points per match against Lampard all time. Meanwhile, Klopp has faced Everton 16 times since taking over the Reds in 2015. Since becoming Liverpool manager, Klopp has a record of 9W-5D-1L versus Everton for a 2.13 points per match figure.

Lampard’s only career managerial win versus Klopp was in March 2020. At the time, Lampard was in charge of Chelsea. The victory came in the fifth round of the FA Cup as the Blues won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
