Tight Game in Store Between Fluminense and Cuiabá
6035

The new Brazilian Serie A season continues this weekend and on the 6th of June we have a meeting between Fluminense and Cuiabá at the Estadio Jornalista Mário Filho.

The hosts begin the weekend in 13th place on one point and the visitors are in 11th place, also on one point having both played a single match this season.

Fluminense come into the game having picked up a point away from home against São Paulo in Serie A last week. It was a decent draw with which to begin the new campaign and Fluminense will be hoping to build on that result by taking maximum points in this fixture.

Having been held to a draw against São Paulo, Fluminense faced RB Bragantino at home in the first leg of their third round tie in the Copa do Brasil.

The score was 0-0 at half time but Fluminense came out strongly in the second half and scored two goals within the space of 9 minutes and to take a 2-0 lead into the second leg.

Including fixtures towards the end of last season, Fluminense have been difficult to beat in Serie A and they undefeated in each of their last 10 league games.

Their home record shows Fluminense have won 4 of their last 5 Serie A matches at the Maracanã and have seen under 2.5 goals in 4 of those 5 fixtures.

Cuiabá started their Serie A campaign with a draw at home against Juventude. Having opened the scoring in the 29th minute, Cuiabá found themselves 2-1 down at half-time.

It appeared as though they were going to suffer defeat but Cuiabá found the equaliser with only 3 minutes remaining on the clock.

Cuiabá will be pleased to have taken something from their first match back in the Brazilian top-flight but it was against the team who finished one place above them in Serie B last season.

Cuiabá are currently on a run of 8 matches without defeat in all competitions and have suffered just one loss in their last 18 games. The defeat came in the Copa do Brasil and was on penalties following a 0-0 draw against 4 de Julho away from home.

Trends show Cuiabá have won each of their last 4 away fixtures in all competitions and have seen under 2.5 goals in 9 of their last 10 games on the road.

Team news and Fluminense will be without Nino and Juan Cazares who are currently on international duty. Hudson is not expected back in action until the end of the year due to a serious knee injury.

Cuiabá should have a full squad from which to choose and they could start with experienced striker Elton in attack.

This should be a closely fought game and we expect to see under 2.5 goals scored. Cuiabá are a newly promoted team and Fluminense will be the bookies favourites to take maximum points but the visitors may have enough to claim a draw.
