Strasbourg will be keen to address their current situation in Ligue 1 when they play host to Rennes at their Stade de la Meinau on Friday night following three recent defeats on the trot and losing nine of their total of 11 matches to date this season.
It’s been a poor start to the new French top flight campaign for Strasbourg who find themselves sitting second from bottom in Ligue 1 with just six points out of the possible 33 on offer so far this term.
Strasbourg’s only respite from what has been a harrowing start to the domestic season have been rare wins over basement dwellers, Dijon, 1-0 at home and a 3-0 win on the road at 13th placed Brest which has saved them from bottom place in Ligue 1.
Results on home turf at their Stade de la Meinau have also been extremely disappointing for Thierry Laurey’s side as the hosts have suffered four defeats out of their five matches to date with losses to Nice, Lille, Lyon and Marseille, so the prospects of a home win on Friday night appear slim at best while three of the five matches have resulted in under 2.5 goals.
It looked like another solid season lay before Friday night’s visitors, Rennes, as they started the new campaign with a seven-match unbeaten run in Ligue 1 which included four wins on the trot, but results have gone south in subsequent weeks.
The visitors’ four-match winning streak consisted of victories over Montpellier, Nimes, Monaco and Saint-Etienne as last season’s 3rd placed finishers had looked like they’d just picked up where they left off at the end of last term.
However, Rennes have managed to pick up just one win from their last six matches overall which was a 2-1 home win against Brest but have also incurred losses against Angers, PSG and Bordeaux.
Rennes have also captured just three wins out of their last nine away matches while six of these nine matches on their travels have also resulted in under 2.5 goals as well.
The previous two encounters at the Stade de la Meinau have resulted with Rennes recording 2-0 wins and Friday night could be no exception as another low-scoring meeting unfolds between two struggling teams.
