Although Nimes headed into the international break with a valuable 1-0 win away from home at Montpellier, Friday evening’s hosts look to have their work cut out if they’re to get anything out of this upcoming clash against PSG.
Since suffering back-to-back defeats against Nantes 2-1 away and a 4-2 loss at home to Rennes, the signs have been encouraging for Nimes as they’ve picked up useful points in draws with Lyon and Lens in subsequent matches, as well as the aforementioned win at Montpellier.
However, results on home turf at their Stade des Costières have produced mixed returns for some time as Nimes have managed to actually win just five of the last 14 matches in their own backyard which includes keeping just four clean sheets.
This latter statistic may be pivotal in determining the outcome of this encounter against an ever-improving PSG outfit who are the joint-second highest goalscorers in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign to date.
In addition, PSG have won each of the previous four meetings against Nimes on the trot and each match also resulted in over 2.5 goals being scored too.
Onto the visitors PSG then, and they signed off before the international break with a crushing 6-1 home win against Angers which also became PSG’s fourth league win on the trot as the visitors look to be gathering ominous momentum.
PSG made a slow and disappointing start to their Ligue 1 campaign having been dealt back-to-back defeats by Lens and Marseille but Thomas Tuchel’s side are now starting to click and this could spell trouble for Nimes this Friday evening despite being at home.
The visitors have also suffered just one defeat out of their last 10 matches overall on their ravels in the French top flight which came in the shape of a surprising 1-0 loss at Lens but eight wins on the road during this period underline PSG’s serious threat, whether they’re at home or away.
Six of PSG’s last eight wins on the road have also produced three goals or more and with the likes of their forward trio of Neymar, Icardi and Mbappe (each with 2 goals apiece) now finding the back of the net, this could be PSG’s fifth win on the trot in the domestic top flight.
