Hugely important clash between Sheff Utd and Wolves
3422

Sheffield United welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Bramall Lane on Wednesday for a hugely important clash in the race for a European place.

The Blades currently occupy ninth-place, although a win could propel them back into the top seven. Meanwhile, Wolves are four points ahead.

Sheff Utd have only managed to win one of their five league games since the restart. After a goalless draw with Aston Villa in their first game back, consecutive 3-0 defeats to Newcastle and Manchester United dented the club’s European ambitions.

Chris Wilder’s men got back on track with a convincing 3-1 victory over Tottenham but were held to a draw by Burnley last time out.

Considering that Sheff Utd took ten points from a possible 12 leading up to the stoppage, their record of five points from a possible 15 since the resumption doesn’t look pretty.

However, Sheff Utd will take confidence from the fact that they have only lost one of their previous eight home games in the Premier League.

Having said that, Wolves come into this game on the back of three consecutive away wins in the Premier League and have only lost two of their previous 14.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have secured victories over West Ham, Bournemouth and Aston Villa since the restart. But a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal last time out was a reality check.

Wolves have gained a reputation for performing well against the country’s top teams, but they were outplayed by the Gunners on Saturday.

The Wanderers’ eight-game unbeaten run in the Premier League may have come to an end, but Santo will be eager for his players to return to winning ways this week.

Head-to-head: These two teams have only met once the top flight in recent times, with a 1-1 draw being played out in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.

However, it’s fair to say that Wolves have enjoyed playing Sheff Utd over the years. Wolves have only lost one of their last eight meetings with Sheff Utd – winning four and drawing three.

Team news: Sheff Utd were without John Lundstram, John Fleck, Luke Freeman and Jack O’Connell for the draw with Burnley. It is unclear whether or not the quartet will be fit for Wednesday. Wolves have no new fitness worries ahead of the trip to Bramall Lane.

This is set to be an intriguing battle between two of the Premier League’s most exciting teams. Both sides are well organised, so it is likely to be a closely-fought encounter.

Just like the reverse fixture, Forebet predicts that a low-scoring draw is on the cards.
