DFB Pokal Final

There is just one game remaining outside of the league playoffs in Germany and that’s the DFB Pokal final. The final will be played at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Saturday 25th May and it is sure to be a big occasion.

RB Leipzig will meet Bayern Munich, with the latter hoping to clinch the domestic double and the former hoping to lift the cup for the first time in their history.

RB Leipzig come into this game having secured a 3rd place finish in the Bundesliga next season. That sees them enter the group stages of the Champions League, which was their aim at the beginning of the campaign.

Having enjoyed a seven game winning streak, RB Leipzig have failed to win any of their last three matches. There have been draws with Mainz away and Bayern Munich at home plus a defeat on the final day of the season at Werder Bremen.

However, Ralf Rangnick made several changes to the starting XI for the match against Werder Bremen to keep his players fresh for this game.

RB Leipzig have won five matches to reach the final of the DFB Pokal. They have defeated Viktoria Koln, Augsburg and Hamburg away plus Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg at home.  Trends show RB Leipzig have scored 2 or more goals in four of those five games.

Bayern Munich will come into this game full of confidence having sealed the Bundesliga title last weekend with a win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery came on from the bench to both score goals, which was the icing on the cake for the German champions.

Bayern Munich are undefeated in their last eleven games in all competitions and you must go back to the defeat at Bayer Leverkusen at the beginning of February to find the last time they lost in a domestic competition.

They have defeated Drochtersen/Assel, Rodinghausen, Hertha Berlin and Werder Bremen away from home plus Heidenheim at home to reach this stage of the DFB Pokal. Bayern Munich have scored 2 or more goals in four of those five games.

Team news and RB Leipzig will welcome back several players from the team which started at Werder Bremen. Yussuf Poulsen, Emil Forsberg, Lukas Klostermann, Peter Gulasci, Willi Orban and Timo Werner are among those expected to return. Tyler Adams and Kevin Kampl could miss out due to injury.

Bayern Munich could welcome back a trio of players as Javier Martinez, James Rodriguez and Manuel Neuer work their way back to fitness. It will be interesting to see who gets the nod in the wide positions with Robben and Ribery impressing as substitutes last week.

This should be a great final with two teams who know how to score goals. However, Bayern Munich lost this final last season and will not want to see a repeat of that result. Bayern have won five of their last seven meetings and if they are at their best, will come out on top again, with both teams scoring.
