As far as the race for the top four goes, Arsenal are finding themselves in a relatively precarious position and one that has come about in the past week or so. That’s because, the Gunners have lost their last three Premier League outings.

While this means, that the North London outfit are going to have to rely on a favour from elsewhere if they are to finish in the top quartet of club in this season’s English top division. However, there is also an ace that manager Unai Emery can play.

That is one that comes in the shape of the Europa League and after Thursday’s win over Valencia, they are very much in the box seat and will now be confident of reaching the final on Wednesday May 29th.

If that does prove to be the case, then it may well be that Arsenal utilise the backup route to next season’s Champions League and still enter Europe’s premier club competition, even if they finish outside the top four.

It may be that they need to rely on continental success, for the simple fact that their domestic form has been so bad as of late and three successive league defeats offers concrete evidence of their current plight.

After defeats to both Crystal Palace and Wolves, they were then comprehensively beaten by Leicester last Sunday and it was a game that once again highlighted their deficiencies in the defensive third of the pitch.

This was perfectly highlighted by Leicester scoring their second goal, one that came from a speculative punt downfield by the Foxes’ Kasper Schmeichel, before Jamie Vardy eventually latched on and headed home at the second attempt.

It was a goal that bought back memories of their woeful performance against Manchester City in last season’s Carabao Cup Final and although the manager has changed, it seems that old habits really do die hard.

Therefore, the fact that they go up against a goal shy Brighton will be music to the ears of the Arsenal squad and if Brighton are confirmed as safe from relegation before kick-off, then it is a scenario that will play massively into the hands of the hosts.

Brighton ended their six-match run without a goal last weekend and the subsequent point that they earned at home to Newcastle, might just be the one that keeps their heads afloat in the Premier League for another season.

Manager, Chris Hughton will no doubt have both eyes on Cardiff’s meeting with Crystal Palace on Saturday and if the Bluebirds fail to win, then there will be no need for any final day relegation drama on May 12th.

However, if Brighton have to the travel to the Emirates needing a positive result, then expect them to setup in a similar fashion to their other recent trip to North London – one that saw them only bested by Tottenham in the final minute of the game.

That said, Arsenal look like that they are firing on all cylinders once again and will undoubtedly be heavy favourites to win this encounter and keep their hopes of finishing in the top four well and truly alive.
