    As the Premier League title race begins to heat up ahead of the run-in, two of the main protagonists prepare to lock horns at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.

    On Sunday, table-topping Liverpool will make the trip to third-placed Arsenal, with five points separating the teams in the standings.

    The Gunners also find themselves level on points with Manchester City, while Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa remain in the hunt. Will Sunday’s showdown change the course of the title race?

    When Arsenal picked up a solitary victory in five league games in December – suffering three defeats along the way – their title challenge appeared to be grinding to a halt.

    However, Mikel Arteta’s men have reignited their form in 2024, thrashing Crystal Palace 5-0 before defeating Nottingham Forest 2-1 last time out.

    Trends show that Arsenal have been especially strong at the Emirates this term, recording eight wins, two draws and one loss in 11 home league games.

    Having won six of their last seven league matches at the Emirates – scoring 18 goals while keeping four clean sheets – the Gunners will be hopeful of frustrating Liverpool.

    On Wednesday, Jurgen Klopp’s side crushed Chelsea 4-1 at Anfield, racking up a whopping 28 shots while limiting their visitors to four attempts.

    Liverpool have now won seven of their last eight matches across all competitions, with a solitary defeat coming in their previous 18 encounters.

    Better still, the Reds are enjoying a 15-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League, having picked up 10 wins and five draws since their last loss.

    Having scored exactly four goals in each of their previous three league matches, Liverpool look destined to find the back of the net on multiple occasions this weekend.

    Head-to-head: Last month, Liverpool claimed a 2-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates, dumping the Gunners out of the FA Cup in the process.

    To make matters worse for Arteta’s side, they have managed to win just one of their previous 12 meetings with Liverpool across all competitions.

    Team news: Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is away on Asian Cup duty with Japan, while Jurrien Timber remains sidelined due to a serious knee injury.

    Liverpool’s Japan international Wataru Endo is also absent, while Mohamed Salah, Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Kostas Tsimikas are out injured.

    Given that 20 of the past 22 meetings between Arsenal and Liverpool have produced over 1.5 goals, we should be treated to an entertaining spectacle at the Emirates.
