Lens to secure the points against Brest
RC Lens vs Stade Brestois - 05/03/2022
2568
Sixth placed Lens will welcome 12th placed Brest to their Stade Bollaert-Delelis for Saturday afternoon’s Ligue 1 clash with the hosts looking to extend their unbeaten run to four matches which could lift them up into the top five pack.
Recent wins against Bordeaux 3-2 at home and a 2-1 win away at Angers has helped lift Lens up into 6th spot and the hosts are now just three points behind the 5th placed club, Strasbourg, as we head into this weekend’s French top flight fixtures.
Although results overall appear to be disappointing as Lens have captured just four wins out of their last 13 matches in the domestic top flight, Lens have been tough to beat on home soil as their home record of W6 D5 L2 indicates.
The two defeats came in the shape of losses to Strasbourg and Marseille but amongst their six league wins at home so far this season, the hosts have recorded impressive victories over Lille and Rennes and have held the likes of PSG and Lyon to draws as well.
Onto Brest and the visitors slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Lorient last weekend which now makes it just two wins from their previous nine games overall in the French top flight.
Wins against Lille 2-0 and Troyes 5-1 which were both on home soil at their Stade Francis-Le Blé have been their only highlights in recent weeks.
While five defeats within this period have well and truly outweighed the minimal successes in the past few weeks.
This decline in form is in stark contrast to earlier in the season which saw Brest put together an impressive eight-match unbeaten sequence of results from mid-October through to early December and included Brest winning six league games on the trot as well.
However, the visitors have been unable to sustain their earlier momentum especially away from home where Brest have failed to win their last four games on their travels, which includes losses at PSG and Rennes, both by 2-0 score lines.
Lens have won the previous two home meetings on the trot against Brest, both by 2-1 margins, and this trend could continue here on Saturday afternoon as the hosts look to close in on a possible top five finish.
