Liverpool and Man City renew rivalry at Anfield on Sunday

The top two in the Premier League go head-to-head at Anfield on Sunday, with first-place Liverpool hosting second-place Manchester City.

Man City sit second in the standings on 13 points, having recorded four wins, one draw and one loss from their opening six games.

Liverpool, meanwhile, find themselves one point clear at the top of the table after picking up four wins and two draws in their first six matches.

In fact, Jurgen Klopp’s side are the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League and are also the division’s top scorers.

The Reds have netted 15 goals in six league games this term (2.5 goals per game) while conceding just four goals in the process.

Liverpool head into Sunday’s showdown on the back of a mammoth 5-1 victory over Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino both bagged braces in Portugal, while Sadio Mane completed the rout.

Tuesday’s win means that Liverpool are currently enjoying an 18-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.

Man City, on the other hand, were beaten 2-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in their previous outing, with Lionel Messi stealing the show.

Despite seeing 55% possession and racking up 18 shots in France, Pep Guardiola’s men failed to find a way through.

In the Premier League, however, Man City are enjoying a five-match unbeaten streak – comprising four wins and a draw.

After beating Norwich, Arsenal and Leicester, the Cityzens drew with Southampton before beating title-rivals Chelsea last weekend.

It is also worth pointing out that City are enjoying a run of five straight clean sheets in the Premier League. Unsurprisingly, they boast the best defensive record in the division.

Head-to-head: Liverpool have failed to win any of their previous three meetings with Man City, recording one draw and two losses in the process.

Man City have also scored exactly four goals in two of their past three games against the Reds and have only lost one of their previous five.

Team news: Liverpool will be without injured trio Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago Alcantara and Harvey Elliott this weekend.

As for Man City, Ilkay Gundogan and Oleksandr Zinchenko remain out of contention as they continue to recover from injury.

Given there is very little between Liverpool and Man City at the top of the Premier League table at the moment, a tense encounter is expected at Anfield.

Forebet predicts that both teams will find the back of the net. However, we are likely to see a low-scoring draw on Sunday.
