PSG and Man City set for tight Champions League battle

Two giants of the European game go head-to-head in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, as Paris Saint-German host Manchester City at the Parc de Princes.

PSG were beaten UCL finalists in 2020, while Man City lost last season’s final to Chelsea. Needless to say, both sides will be despite to go one better this time around.

Let’s start by looking at the hosts, PSG, who were held to a shock 1-1 draw by Club Brugge on Matchday 1.

Despte seeing 64% of the ball in Belgium, the French champions faced 16 shots and were arguably lucky to come away with a point.

Domestically, however, Maurico Pochettino’s men have won all eight of their league games this term and already find themselves miles clear at the Ligue 1 summit.

The Parisians have netted 22 goals (2.75 goals per game) while conceding just seven, underlining their superiority on home soil.

Although Lionel Messi has yet to open his PSG account, Kylian Mbappe has notched four goals and four assists in nine outings across all competitions this season.

Man City, on the other hand, head into Tuesday’s clash on the back of a hugely impressive away victory over Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola’s men prevented the Blues from registering a single shot on target at Stamford Bridge, with Gabriel Jesus netting the only goal of the game.

Since losing to Tottenham Hotspur in their first match of the season, Man City have been almost unstoppable.

In fact, they are currently enjoying a seven-game unbeaten streak in all competitions – having picked up six wins and one draw in that time.

Not only have Guardiola’s men scored a whopping 24 goals across their past seven outings (3.43 goals per game), but they have also kept five clean sheets in the process.

City hammered RB Leipzig 6-3 a fortnight ago, kicking off their Champions League campaign in commanding fashion.

Head-to-head: PSG and Man City have faced each other five times over the years. City remain unbeaten in this fixture, with three wins and two draws to their name.

The Cityzens knocked PSG out of the Champions League in the semi-finals last season, winning 2-1 away before claiming a 2-0 victory on home soil.

Team news: PSG could be without Lionel Messi on Tuesday due to injury, while Sergio Ramos is sidelines with a calf issue.

Man City also have two injury concerns at the moment, with Ilkay Gundogan and Oleksandr Zinchenko unlikely to feature in midweek.

Although Man City knocked PSG out of the UCL last term, we are likely to see a tight battle between two top sides this time around.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that PSG and Man City will play out a low-scoring draw in Paris.
