Luton Town – Premier League Preview (2023-24)
1182

Luton Town are back in the top flight of English football for the first time since 1992.

Following three decades in the lower leagues, the Hatters will be eager to make their mark on the Premier League in 2023-24.

Manager: Rob Edwards

Stadium: Kenilworth Road

Last Season: 3rd (Championship)

Believe it or not, Luton Town were playing in the Conference as recently as 2013-14.

Thanks to four promotions in 10 years, the Bedfordshire outfit find themselves in what many believe to be the best domestic football league on the planet.

What Happened Last Season?

When Nathan Jones left the club to join Southampton in November 2022, it looked as though Luton’s season would fall apart.

However, Rob Edwards picked up where Jones left off before taking the Hatters to new heights.

Luton finished third in the Championship last term – 11 points shy of the automatic promotion places and 11 points inside the play-off spots.

It is also worth noting that only champions Burnley conceded fewer goals than Luton in 2022-23.

In the play-offs, the Hatters claimed a 3-2 aggregate victory over Sunderland before defeating Coventry City on penalties in the final at Wembley.

Impressively, Edwards lost just five of his 32 games after replacing Jones last season.

Key Players

The attacking duo of Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo will continue to play a key role for Luton in 2023-24.

Morris chalked up 20 goals and seven assists across all competitions last term, while Adebayo bagged 10 goals and four assists.

Standout performers like Tom Lockyer, Jordan Clark and Allan Campbell also played a pivotal part in last season’s promotion success, with the former being named Player of the Season by the Luton Town Supporters’ Trust.

Edwards has made several signings this summer as he prepares his squad for Premier League football.

Ryan Giles, Tahith Chong, Mads Andersen and Marvelous Nakamba have all arrived, while Manchester City right-back Issa Kabore has returned for another loan spell.

What Can Luton Town Achieve in 2023-24?

Of course, Luton Town’s main aim for 2023-24 is to stay in the Premier League.

Given that Luton are the favourites for relegation, Edwards and his players will be desperate to beat the drop and prove their doubters wrong.

The Hatters built their promotion campaign on a strong defensive effort and strict discipline, but attackers like Morris and Adebayo could thrive in the Premier League if they get the right service.
