Everton – Premier League Preview (2023-24)
1356

After flirting with relegation throughout the previous campaign, Everton will be looking to establish a sense of stability under Sean Dyce in 2023-24.

Manager: Sean Dyche

Stadium: Goodison Park

Last Season: 17th

The Toffees will be determined to avoid another relegation battle following a disappointing 2022-23 campaign.

With Dyche at the helm, the Merseysiders have an experienced manager who knows what it takes to get teams out of trouble.

What Happened Last Season?

Everton managed to win just eight of their 38 Premier League games last term, recording 12 draws and 18 losses in the process. As a result, they finished just two points clear of the relegation zone after months of uncertainty.

Having ended the previous campaign as the division’s second-lowest scorers - only Wolverhampton Wanderers (31) netted fewer goals than Everton’s 34 - the Toffees will need to increase the output in 2023-24.

Everton suffered 12 defeats in 17 league outings between October and March before Dyche replaced Frank Lampard and guided the club to safety. Needless to say, Dyche will not want to perform another rescue act.

Key Players

Pivotal striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin made just 15 Premier League starts last season, scoring two goals in the process. Having struggled offensively throughout 2022-23, a fit and firing Calvert-Lewin could change the team’s fortunes.

The Toffees released Yerry Mina, Andros Townsend and Tom Davies at the end of the previous campaign, bringing in Arnaut Danjuma and Ashley Young as replacements.

Still, it is fair to say that dependable performers like Jordan Pickford, Seamus Coleman, Idrissa Gueye and Amadou Onana hold the key to Everton’s chances of success in 2023-24.

What Can Everton Achieve in 2023-24?

At the end of the day, Dyche’s task is to avoid relegation.

However, the experienced manager will be keen to ease relegation worries as quickly as possible before attempting to climb the table.

There is no denying that Everton have enough top-quality players to challenge for a mid-table finish - or perhaps even a top-half finish - under Dyche.

The Toffees must now dust themselves down and make marked improvements in the coming months.
