Friday Night Football

Angers hosted Lille as the weekend’s action in the French top flight kicked off at Stade Jean-Bouin. The visitors notched up a third straight win in Ligue 1 with a comfortable victory thanks to goals from Victor Osimhen and Renato Sanches. On the other hand, Angers slumped to a third consecutive defeat.

Saturday’s Round-Up

Marseille continued their remarkable unbeaten run as they saw off struggling Toulouse. Dimitri Payet scored the only goal of the game but Andre Villa-Boas' side should've scored more. Marseille remain second, while Toulouse are now seven points adrift at the bottom.

Despite registering 17 shots and enjoying the majority of the possession, Rennes were held to a goalless draw by Brest. Following a run of one win in four, Rennes are still third. Brest sit six points clear of the bottom three.

The spoils were shared in a six-goal thriller between Dijon and Nantes. Stephy Mavididi gave Dijon the lead before Moses Simon levelled. Julio Tavares put Dijon back in front but a Mickael Alphonse own goal saw the teams go into the break at 2-2. Mavididi thought he’d won the game for the hosts on 90 minutes with his second goal of the game but Andrei Girotto’s injury-time strike earned Nantes a draw.

Monaco sealed a late comeback against Amiens to snatch all three points at Stade de la Licorne. Serhou Guirassy put Amiens ahead early on and the home side led for most of the game. However, Wissam Ben Yedder levelled on 85 minutes before Islam Slimani netted with seconds remaining to turn the game on its head.

Ibrahima Niane gave Metz the lead after just 2 minutes against Bordeaux. But after Vincent Pajot was sent off with less than 10 minutes on the clock, Metz struggled to hold onto their advantage. Second-half goals from Toma Basic and Remi Oudin gave Bordeaux all three points.

Nimes continued their revival with an impressive away victory at Nice. Alexis Claude-Maurice opened the scoring for the hosts but Loick Landre pulled one back for Nimes just before half time. Nice were reduced to ten men when Hicham Boudaoui was sent off early in the second half, before goals from Romain Philippoteaux and Moussa Kone capped off a fine win for Nimes.

Super Sunday

Andy Delort scored the only goal of the game as Montpellier edged St-Etienne at La Mosson. Junior Sambia saw red late in the first half but Montpellier managed to hold on despite a barrage of shots from St-Etienne.

Strasbourg are up to sixth following a third win in four games. Alexander Djiku, Abdul Majeed Waris and Kenny Lala all got on the scoresheet for Strasbourg, while Reims offered very little going forward – failing to resister a single shot on target.

PSG survived a scare to eventually overcome Lyon. Thomas Tuchel’s side raced into a three-goal lead thanks to goals from Angel Di Maria, Kylian Mbappe and Fernando Marcal (OG). A quickfire Lyon double saw the game finely poised at 3-2 with 30 minutes remaining, but substitute Edinson Cavani put the game out of Lyon’s reach with his 199th PSG goal.
