Peter Bosz leaves Bayer Leverkusen

Earlier this week, Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen dispensed with the services of head coach Peter Bosz. The decision may have not have come as a massive surprise because of Bayer recent poor run of form.
Die Werkself have lost four of their last five matches in all competitions, while also exiting both the Europa League to Swiss team Youngs Boys and the DFP Pokal against lower league Rot-Weiss Essen in recent weeks.
The poor recent run of results were disappointing considering that at one stage earlier in the season Bayer were top of the Bundesliga and Bosz received major praise for the teams form.
Taking the job that Bosz has done just on the merits of their league position into account, his performance as head coach has not been terrible.
The team were always going to face a struggle for a Champions League spot this season due to so many quality teams competing for just four spots. Virtually every season Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Dortmund take one of those spots.
This season has been slightly different with BVB struggling for form and currently outside the Champions League spots. Maybe those in the Bayer Leverkusen hierarchy believed that they have missed an opportunity and Bosz management is one of the reasons.
His performance in Leverkusen will be seen as another failure for Bosz, who has in the past proven himself to be an astute coach at times. The Dutch coach likes to play attacking football and he is very much in the Johan Cruyff school of coaching.
When it comes off it can produce fantastic free-flowing football. When it goes wrong though, his teams can be exposed to counter-attacks from opposition teams.
The decision for Bosz and Bayer Leverkusen to part ways seems like a logical one. The last few weeks have shown the main weakness of the former Dortmund boss, in that when things go wrong he seems to struggle to turn them around.
This weakness may well hamper Bosz’s future managerial career at the top level of the European game.
