Time for Kane to Move On?

Time for Kane to Move On?
3038

If there is one man Tottenham Hotspur can rely upon in most situations, it is Harry Kane. The England international could do nothing about his teams elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb last week but he stepped up against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Kane helped to create the opening goal and was brought down in the second half, winning a penalty, which he took himself to score.

At the time of writing, Kane is the 9th highest goal scorer in the history of the Premier League. He needs only 3 goals to move above Jermain Defoe and Robbie Fowler into 7th place.

Next season, Kane is likely to move above Thierry Henry and Frank Lampard, with the likes of Andy Cole and Wayne Rooney in his sights.

There is no doubt Kane will continue to score plenty of goals at Spurs. In 2014/15, Kane was the second highest score in the Premier League, behind Sergio Agüero of Manchester City. He has remained in the top 6 every season since, including winning the Golden Boot in 2015/16 and the following season.

Kane is currently joint top in the 2020/21 Premier League goalscoring charts and has every chance of winning the Golden Boot.

However, unless Tottenham cause an upset and defeat Manchester City in the League Cup final, they are going to fail to win a trophy again this season.

They still have an opportunity to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League and that would be great but it is not a trophy and that is something Kane is missing.

The striker has two runners-up medals to his name, from the 2014/15 League Cup final and the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League final. For such a high quality player, that is not enough and this summer must be the time for Kane to make a move to a club with trophy winning potential.

Agüero appears to be coming to the end of his time with Manchester City and that could leave them with a huge hole in the strikers position. Kane will be 28 years old by the time the Premier League kicks-off next season and in his prime.

Manchester City will start the season as the defending champions and favourites to win the title. The odds will only shorten if they manage to add Kane to their ranks.

Manchester City have made a big move for a Spurs player in the past when they bought Kyle Walker for an initial £45 million fee. He has gone on to win the Premier League twice, the FA Cup, and the League Cup three times with Manchester City.

Kane will have the opportunity to win all three competitions plus the Champions League at the Etihad Stadium. There is so much talk about the future of Erling Haaland this summer but Kane would be a great signing for any club and Manchester City are certainly capably of pulling off the move.
