Kai Havertz could be a game-changer for Chelsea

Kai Havertz could be a game-changer for Chelsea

Chelsea have agreed a fee of around £80m plus 20m in add-ons for Bayer Leverkusen and Germany attacker Kai Havertz. The Blues have been busy in the transfer market, but signing the 21-year-old could be a game-changer for Frank Lampard’s team.

The team from south west London have been highly active in the transfer window, with the likes of Timo Werner, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech strengthening an already talented squad.

All four players will add their own unique qualities to the Blues squad.

However, it could be argued that Havertz has the potential to be the biggest of all the signings. The 21-year-old has been highly-rated for a long time in the German game.

He has already had his ups and downs in the Bundesliga, even captaining Leverkusen in recent seasons. The second half of last season saw Havertz start fulfilling his potential.

The youngster successfully switched to a false nine role, having previously played as a number ten and out wide.

The move to a more advanced striking position brought the best out of the forward, as when playing as the team's main focal point he scored seven goals in as many Bundesliga appearances.

Where Havertz will play for Chelsea this season is as yet unknown. He could start on the right-wing, as the number ten and or even upfront with compatriot Timo Werner out wide. The fact that the two German players are so versatile makes them highly useful assets for the Blues.

In his home nation, many are talking about Havertz as potentially the best player that they have produced in a long time. If he fulfils his potential at Stamford Bridge, then he could quite literally be a game-changer for Chelsea in the near future.
