According to reports from the Scottish media, SPL champions Celtic are in advanced talks with former England international goalkeeper Joe Hart. The 33-year-old is a free agent after his contract with Premier League Burnley expired.

The Hoops are reportedly looking for a goalkeeper, with current number one Fraser Forster unlikely to extend his loan spell beyond this season. The 32-year-old has spent this season on-loan in Glasgow from Southampton.

He has impressed for the Hoops, but reports suggest that he is not keen on signing another temporary deal with the Scottish champions, while it seems unlikely that Celtic would make the switch a permanent one.

That means that Celtic are on the lookout for a new number one. The experienced Hart could fit the bill. The former Manchester City star has endured a difficult few seasons at Burnley.

He was initially brought in as both Tom Heaton and Nick Pope were ruled out through injury. However, as both returned to fitness he was relegated to the bench. Heaton left last summer, but Pope has thrived in the Clarets goal and has been ever-present this season, leaving Hart to kick his heels on the bench.

With Pope in good form, it was inevitable that Hart would leave the north west outfit this summer when his contract expired. The veteran goalkeeper has been upbeat about his situation. In terms of his situation, it is certainly not a desperate one.

A switch to Celtic at this stage of his career seems like a logical one. The Hoops have revived Forster’s career, as he had struggled at Southampton. Maybe a switch to Scotland could well have the same effect for Hart.

The 33-year-old was playing in a Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid just four years ago. He is far from finished and this could be a move that works well for all parties involved.
