Manchester United once again ineffective in attack

Manchester United once again ineffective in attack

A goalless draw at Wolves in the FA Cup third round on Saturday was yet another game where Manchester United struggled to impress. The fact the Red Devils failed to have a shot on target at Molineux Stadium is incredible, especially for a team with such promising attacking players.

The game saw the men from Manchester fail to score for the third time in their last five games in all competitions.

It is starting to become a trend. At different points during the season, the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have looked highly dangerous.

However, both have a tendency to be inconsistent, which is likely a factor in the Red Devils struggles in front of goal of late. United’s recent inconsistency has not been helped by a lack of goals.

No team has scored fewer goals in the top-six of the Premier League this season. A relative lack of goals coupled with a defence that still looks vulnerable is a recipe for an underwhelming campaign.

One player who could help contribute to the Red Devils attacking efforts is French superstar Paul Pogba. The former Juventus midfielder has proven his worth as a driving force in the centre of midfield. However, he has been perennially injured this season and speculation continues about his future at the north west club.

Many seem to use Pogba as a scapegoat for United’s troubles in recent seasons. That would be harsh, as it would be fair to say that the current Red Devils team is mediocre at best.

The likes of Rashford and Martial are undoubted talents on their day, but until that consistency comes, they will struggle for results.

Whether boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can come up with a solution to United’s problems only time will tell. However, at the moment the signs are not good that the Norwegian has the managerial acumen to take United where they want to be.
