Jose Mourinho may be what Tottenham needs

Jose Mourinho may be what Tottenham needs
4019

On Wednesday, Jose Mourinho was officially confirmed as the new head coach of Tottenham signing a contract until 2023. The Portuguese boss replaces highly-rated Mauricio Pochettino in the Spurs hot seat.

The decision does not seem to have gone down well with the majority of Tottenham fans if you believe social media reaction. However, social media reaction is not always a good gauge of real opinions.

The previous boss and the new man in the job have very contrasting styles when it comes to their football philosophies. However, maybe a boss like Mourinho is what this current group of players needs to get results.

For the majority of Pochettino’s reign as Spurs boss, his team played attractive, attacking football and it nearly brought the club from north London success. However, nearly is the crucial word in that sentence.

Reaching the Champions League final last season was a major achievement. However, they lost the final against Liverpool. The simple fact is that despite the undoubted progress made under Pochettino, Spurs still failed to win a trophy in the Argentinian’s five-year tenure as boss.

Mourinho is a trophy collector. In his managerial career, the 56-year-old has won 25 trophies. Few modern-day bosses can say they can match the former Chelsea boss’ record.

His style of football is often considered defensive, but maybe that is what Tottenham need. His managerial record speaks for its self, as he wins football matches and trophies.

Some say that Mourinho’s is not the boss he was in years gone by. However, he still has the managerial acumen to win trophies. He will also enjoy the challenge of helping to revive Tottenham’s flagging fortunes.

Nobody can doubt Jose Mourinho is one of the greatest tacticians of the modern era of football. Tottenham fans should be glad he has joined their club, as he could bring major success to the club from north London, but he will not change his style of play that’s for sure.
