Timo Werner can become a truly top striker

It seems that everything is coming up Timo Werner at the moment. The Germany international has started the season in sensational form.
The 23-year-old RB Leipzig forward has scored in every club game but one this season. On Tuesday night, he produced a man of the match display for Die Roten Bullen in their opening Champions League game of the season, a 2-1 win at Benfica.
The striker grabbed a brace to add to his five Bundesliga goals already scored this season. Many have touted Werner as potentially the complete striker and his early form suggests he could live up to that claim in the near future.
Werner will be looking to add to his goal tally when Leipzig visit Werder Bremen on Saturday evening.
His predatory ability this season is almost reminiscent of former Germany striker Miroslav Klose. He gets into the goalscoring positions and now seems to be deadly clinical in front of goal.
However, Werner is arguably a much better player already than late developer Klose. While Klose was more of a goal-hanger, to term it in an old-fashioned way, Werner has pace and superior technical ability, yet he is only 23 years old.
If he continues in his current vein of form, the striker may not need to leave his present club to win big trophies. There is a feeling though that Werner has the potential to become a truly top striker and that a move to a European giant would improve him even further.
The striker’s previous contract ran out next summer and there had been rumours linking him with moves to Bavarian behemoths Bayern Munich and European champions Liverpool.
However, the young striker signed a new deal recently, which was a big boost for Julian Nagelsmann’s team. The problem is that the boost may only be short-lived, as a reported 30million euro release clause in his contract will likely see Werner leave Leipzig in the near future. The striker could go on and achieve great things in the club and international game.
