Liverpool and Bayern Munich are favourites to sign the highly-rated German forward. Timo Werner looks set to leave RB Leipzig this summer after ongoing speculation linking him with a move away from the club.

Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick has confirmed in recent days that if the player does not want to sign a new contract, he should change clubs but insists they have had no official approach for the striker.

The 23-year-old has spent 3 successful seasons with the German side. He has been the club’s top scorer in each of those seasons, guiding them to 2nd, 6th and 3rd placed finishes in the Bundesliga.

His consistent goals have made him one of the most in demand strikers in Europe, with Liverpool and Bayern Munich the front runners for his signature. Werner signed for Leipzig in 2016 after being relegated from the Bundesliga with VfB Stuttgart.

He joined for a club record fee of €10 million. He has since become the youngest player to reach 100 and 150 Bundesliga appearances and also became the first ever player to score 50 top flight goals for RB Leipzig.

With 24 international caps for Germany under his belt and 7 goals for his country, many believe now is the time for him to take his career to the next level. Like any other stand out performer in Germany, Bayern Munich are reportedly keen on signing Werner as they look to replace the departing Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

However, it is Liverpool that have emerged as the firm favourites to sign Werner as they try to prise the German forward away from his home country. The English club will be looking to add strength in depth to their squad after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are Liverpool’s trusted front 3 but manager Jurgen Klopp will want to make sure no one gets complacent and expects a spot in the starting line-up.

Timo Werner would be an ideal candidate for The Reds after scoring 16 goals in league 30 matches last season. With speculation building it surely won’t be long before we find out where he will be playing his football next year.

Weather he will stay in the Bundesliga or opt for a move abroad remains to be seen. One thing is certain however, wherever he is, there will be goals.
