RB Leipzig quietly having perfect season

RB Leipzig quietly having perfect season

On Tuesday night, RB Leipzig sealed their place in the German Cup Final. Die Bullen are not only on their way to the cup final in Berlin, but they are third in the Bundesliga. Just nine points separate RB Leipzig from top spot.

Unfortunately, RB Leipzig will miss out on the title with just four games left to play, but it has been a great season none the less. They are 12 games unbeaten in the Bundesliga with goals flying in during that times pan.

Die Bullen’s November and December were the point in which a title fight ended. As Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich strengthened their credentials for the Bundesliga title, RB Leipzig lost four out of seven games.

Their form since their last loss against Borussia Dortmund on January 19th has reinforced what could have been had Die Bullen not had a falloff in midseason.

RB Leipzig will have the chance to land silverware for the first time since reaching the Bundesliga in 2016.

Ralf Rannick, the man who engineered RB Leipzig’s promotion from the Bundesliga 2, could be the same coach to lead them to a German Cup triumph. It would be a remarkable story, especially with Rannick stepping aside once again at the season’s end.

A potential RB Leipzig cup win could be overshadowed by the departure of striker Timo Werner in the summer. Despite financial growth and success on the field, RB Leipzig have already shown they will sell their star players.

Last summer, Liverpool paid nearly £60 million to sign midfielder Naby Keita. Werner will be the next to go as he has stated he doesn’t want to re-sign with the club.

The striker is rated at £58m, but with the transfer market seeing goal scorers go for high prices, Werner should go for far more.

Werner has tallied 14 goals and five assists in 27 games. He will be difficult to replace, but RB Leipzig’s scouting department has shown the ability to replace their stars.

The summer won’t just see Werner leave. Rannick is set to leave RB Leipzig again as Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann takes charge of the team.

Nagelsmann has transformed Hoffenheim into a force that is a constant contender for the Champions League. Nagelsmann is just 31 and is on an amazing career trajectory that could see him remain at RB Leipzig for years.

Are RB Leipzig the German team of the future? They have finances in place along with talented coaches and players. It is a perfect storm that could land the club its first German Cup in their short history and far more.
