Have Everton finally lost their inferiority complex?

Everton recorded a 1-0 win over Arsenal at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon. The victory was the Toffees third straight league win. The victory also means that the Merseysider’s have taken seven points from nine in their last three home games against Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.
The results could be significant, as one of the Toffees problems in recent years has been picking up results against the so-called ‘big six’ teams. Even when the Toffees were challenging for a top six and even top four spots on a regular basis, they showed an inferiority complex against the higher profile teams.
However, the recent results against the big teams suggest that the Toffees have lost that inferiority complex. The Toffees away performances at Anfield, Stamford Bridge and the Emirates earlier this season showed promise. Silva’s side did not look out of place, but unfortunately, they picked up just a solitary draw at Chelsea.
Silva is not a man for inferiority, though. The Portuguese boss has a belief in his football philosophy and he is a highly-rated head coach for a reason. Putting Silva’s philosophy together with a group of quality players is a recipe for success.
The current Everton team does not lack quality and their talent has shone through in recent games after a poor middle of the campaign. There are a number of players who are either in their early to mid-’20s with room to develop.
The likes of Andre Gomes, Bernard, Richarlison and Lucas Digne are players who should be playing at the highest level of the game. However, in the cases of Digne and Gomes, they struggled to get into the Barcelona team for one reason or another. They seem to have found a home on Merseyside, though, producing outstanding recent displays.
If Everton can take their form into next season, then the Toffees could finally be a threat to the teams in the top six. The Merseysider’s recent displays against the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal show that on their day they can give most teams in the top-flight a game.
